For visitors with a visual impairment, we operate a spoken tour with a handling collection and many hands-on activities outside, that are optional for those with sensory and stimulatory concerns.
Seating is available throughout the site, and our guides are on hand to make sure your visit is as easy and lovely as possible.

The Scottish Crannog Centre holds a wide Event Program throughout the year, including day events for special occasions, evening events and special take over events as well. All events are included in standard ticket prices unless stated otherwise.
Our School Visits are whole day visits in which we offer a variety of
activities tailored to the groups needs and interests. A visit to The Scottish
Crannog Centre would start between 10:00am – 11:00 and finishes up at 3:00pm
the latest. These times can be amended to suit your travelling needs and school
start times.
We include a wide range of hands on activities built around what is
being studied and what the Class/School is looking for to achieve. This can
vary from Wire Jewellery, tin casting, blacksmithing through to pottery,
spinning and weaving and woodworking. All led by our Iron Age demonstrators.
One of our team will call you prior to your visit to confirm details
and plans and will design the visit with you.
We have a changing theme throughout the year which follows closely
with the seasons:
1. Spring – Foraging, abundance and Beltane
2. Summer – Trade, Travel and Solsitice
3. Autumn – Harvest, Hunting and Samhain
4. Winter – Woodlands, Lardering
and Imbolc
These are the focus on the times of year that we follow and as a Crannog Community will be working on, however we can and will tailor all visits to the groups and what is being studied by your Class/School.
We always work with schools in small
groups, this is to engage with pupils on a level which means no-one is left
behind, they get the full attention of our fantastic Iron Age interpreters – we
don’t have an outdoor classroom or a lunch room, the whole ethos of the museum
is to have your community come and join our community much as was done in
prehistoric times – sharing skills, knowledge and stories – so get your boasts ready to impress our team!

”I arranged for my school class to visit the Crannog Centre. The staff were extremely accommodating and closed the museum to the public so that we could have exclusive use of the whole site. The day was so well organised and the staff and volunteers were knowledgeable and helped the children see the elements of life in the Iron Age. The hands-on activities were engaging and everyone came away from the day having learned a lot.
The centre is a great way to learn about the past and it was probably one of the best school visits I have ever attended.
Thank you so much for a great day!“
