Seating is available throughout the site, and our guides are on hand to make sure your visit is as easy and lovely as possible.
Our accessibility guide is available through AccessAble for visitors to access all our site’s specifications before visiting.

The Scottish Crannog Centre holds a wide Event Program throughout the year, including day events for special occasions, evening events, themed days and special take-over events. All events are included in standard ticket prices unless stated otherwise. Check out or events page for the full 2025 event and themed day line up!
At the Scottish Crannog Centre, we welcome schools to come and experience the early Iron Age through hands-on activities relating to daily life.
Our visits are a whole day in which we offer a variety of
activities tailored to the groups needs and interests. A visit to The Scottish Crannog Centre starts between 10:00-11:00am and finishes up at 3:00pm. These times can be amended to suit your travelling needs and school times.
We include a wide range of hands-on activities built around what is
being studied and what the class/school is looking to achieve. This can
vary from cooking, foraging, storytelling, through to pottery, spinning, weaving, and woodwork. All activities are led by our Iron Age interpreters.
One of our team will call you prior to your visit to confirm details
and plans. We will design the visit with you around your interests.
We have changing themes throughout the year which follow closely
with the seasons:
1. Spring – Foraging, abundance and Beltane
2. Summer – Trade, Travel and Solstice
3. Autumn – Harvest, Hunting and Samhain
4. Winter – Woodlands, Lardering
and Imbolc
We bring a focus to these seasons just like the Crannog Dwellers would have done, however, we can and will tailor all visits to the groups learning outcomes and curriculum.
We always work with schools in small
groups, this is to engage with pupils on a level which means no one is left behind, they get the full attention of our fantastic Iron Age interpreters – we don’t have an outdoor classroom but the whole ethos of the museum is to have your community come and join our community just like in the Iron Age – sharing skills, knowledge and stories – so get your boasts ready to impress our team!
Pricing
£10/student
Where possible, we ask for a 10:1 ratio on adults to children, this allows for the best experience possible on site, to encourage this ratio for every 10 kids one adult goes free!

”I arranged for my school class to visit the Crannog Centre. The staff were extremely accommodating and closed the museum to the public so that we could have exclusive use of the whole site. The day was so well organised and the staff and volunteers were knowledgeable and helped the children see the elements of life in the Iron Age. The hands-on activities were engaging and everyone came away from the day having learned a lot.
The centre is a great way to learn about the past and it was probably one of the best school visits I have ever attended.
Thank you so much for a great day!“
