“International Museums Day” Event

To celebrate International Museums Day, the Crannog Centre was host to a range of local guests for an evening of entertainment! Performers Rona Wilkie and Sally Simpson gave us their thoughts…

On the evening of May 18th, the Scottish Crannog Centre hosted an event for local businesses and heritage organisations to celebrate International Museums Day. The evening showcased the museum’s upcoming musical exhibition, due to be launched later this year. As well as talks from Crannog Centre chairman Nick Grant and curator Frances Collinson, there were performances by Rona Wilkie (2012 BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year winner) and fiddle player Sally Simpson.

Here’s what the two performers had to say about the evening:

“I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the crannog and having the chance to look at the lyre bridge found in the loch. Performing for visitors in the crannog made for a really special, intimate evening, sharing songs, tunes and stories in the same way we know has happened for thousands of years. It’s wonderful to see the importance of music and the arts being researched, both for their own value and the information that instruments and music of the time can tell us of social history, and I look forward to seeing and hearing more about the musical exploits and research going on around Loch Tay’s crannogs.” – Sally Simpson

“It was a pleasure to play in the crannog on Loch Tay, to an intimate audience. It is spine-tingling to have created a concert in such a space, without any lights or sound equipment. It really brings life to the space and allows you to imagine how past generations have congregated to swap stories, song and music for millennia.” – Rona Wilkie
