Iron Age Ingenuity

Sunday 28th May 2017
10.30am - 4.30pm

Ancient crafts and technologies are showcased at this extraordinary day. Find out more about amazing ancient skills of bronze-casting and much, much more.

ARTEFACT OF MONTH:
BASKET FRAGMENT.

Ancient crafts and technologies are showcased at this extraordinary day featuring bronze-casting, basketry and many of the amazing skills learned and implemented by our ancient ancestors.  Hands-on, enlightening and exciting - let our experts guide you through the Iron Age and all that makes it so special.

Technology is perhaps thought of as a modern term but 2,500 years ago people living on Loch Tay were way ahead of the game in terms of innovation and technological know-how.  Underwater discoveries have proven that the loch-dwellers were proficient at all sorts of skills we would think of as 'modern' achievements.  This exceptional event showcases some of their technological expertise and development.

Our artefact for May is a delicate fragment of basketry, considered to be decorative as well as functional - perhaps part of a quiver for arrows?

All day time events include museum, exhibits, talks around a log-fire in the Crannog roundhouse, demonstrations and hands-on experience of ancient crafts and technologies.
