Prince Charles and Nick had previously met at The Scottish Crannog Centre during the Prince's visit to the unique visitor Centre in 2001.  Nick reported that The Prince recalled their previous meeting.

The OBE was awarded to Nick in recognition of services to underwater archaeology, public engagement and the Scottish economy.
