Dun Deardail Archaeology Festival –Crannog Outreach Event

August 20th, 2016

Meet some of our Scottish Crannog Centre crew in a pop-up Iron Age event as we join forces with Forest Enterprise and the Nevis Landscape Partnership at the Dun Deardail Archaeology Festival on Saturday 20th August from 11am – 4pm.

Dun Deardail is a vitrified hill fort dating to Iron Age or Pictish times located near Fort William. A two-week excavation is taking place there and the Archaeology Festival coincides with an open day when shuttle buses will run up to the dig site. Meanwhile, we are setting up camp in the Braveheart Car Park where our demonstrations will include woodworking with replica ancient tools, textile crafts and wool dyeing, and ancient cooking over open fires. Visitors and West Highland Way hikers can pop over to toast wild boar sausages, make their own bannocks, try out the smoking fish and more! This event is FREE!
